Interventions that are more complex and focus on improving patients' capacity for self-care are most effective at reducing hospital readmissions, according to a study in the July 2014 JAMA Internal Medicine. The article's authors identified 42 studies published from 1990 to 2013 describing interventions that were effective in reducing 30-day readmissions.
