The Joint Commission has proposed a new accreditation approach and related requirements for its long-term care accreditation program, states a July 2, 2012, Joint Commission standards field review. The goal of the new initiative is to provide the long-term care field with an accreditation program that focuses on the most critical issues supporting safety and quality of care for patients and residents, while eliminating or reducing redundancy that exists between the Joint Commission survey and oversight by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and other regulatory entities.
