Falling Stars: CMS Delays Release of Star Ratings; Health System Finds Rating System Has Been Wrong
June 20, 2018 | Strategic Insights for Health System
The Centers for Medicare and Medicare Services (CMS) announced that it will not update its overall hospital star quality ratings in July, according to a June 12, 2018, news release from the American Hospital Association. CMS said it wanted "time for additional analysis of the impact of changes to some of the measures on the star ratings," the American Hospital Associated said. The association, which has raised questions regarding data in the CMS's star ratings preview report, said that CMS "made the right call." In related news, CMS may have been miscalculating its hospital star ratings since they were first released in 2016, according to a June 15, 2018, article in Modern Healthcare.
