Joint Commission revised two of its requirements for National Patient Safety Goal (NPSG) 7, which calls for reducing the risk of healthcare-associated infections for hospitals and critical access hospitals, and introduced new requirements for nursing care centers. Both requirements will take effect on January 1, 2018. At that time, Joint Commission will begin requiring nursing care centers to implement evidence-based practices to prevent healthcare-associated infections due to multidrug-resistant organisms.
