Implementation of Electronic Prescribing Still Slow despite Evidence of Benefits

Only about 36% of all prescriptions in the United States in 2011 were delivered electronically, states an April 28, 2012, New York Times article. According to the article, the number of hospitals using e-prescribing is growing rapidly; still, only about 30% have made the switch from written prescriptions. Medical practices are also converting to e-prescribing as a result of Medicare reimbursement incentives.
