The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has released its annual report summarizing 2011 device-associated infection data for hospitals participating in the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN). The report provides current device-associated infection rates that can be analyzed for trends, used to estimate adherence to prevention practices, and used to help facilities develop surveillance and analysis methods. According to the report, 3,854 hospitals reported at least one month of data for some patient cohorts under surveillance.
