Report: Newborns Account for Costliest and Most Frequent Liability Claims

Infants one month or younger account for the most claims as well as the highest cost of pediatric medical liability claims paid, according to a report released recently by The Doctors Company, a medical malpractice insurer. The report analyzes 1,215 claims that were closed between 2008 and 2017. Cases involving infants one month or younger accounted for 173 claims and resulted in a median indemnity payment of $300,000 and a median expense paid of $119,311, according to the report.
