Reducing Infections from Equipment Moves up List of Joint Commission’s Most Challenging Requirements

Requirement RC.01.01.01 (maintenance of complete and accurate medical records for individual patients) topped the list of most challenging requirements for hospitals surveyed by the Joint Commission in 2012, the organization revealed in the March 13, 2013, Joint Commission Online. The overall rate of noncompliance with this standard was 60%. The second most challenging requirement, LS.02.01.20 (maintaining the integrity of the means of egress), had a 51% noncompliance rate, and the third most challenging requirement, LS.02.01.10 (building and fire protection features are designed and maintained to minimize the effects of fire, smoke, and heat), had a noncompliance rate of 46%.
