The murder of a patient led the new chief executive officer (CEO) of a Florida hospital to spend his first week on the job conducting a full review of security and patient safety, according to a March 8, 2018, article in the Tallahassee Democrat. The patient died shortly before the CEO began his tenure because of wounds sustained when her son entered her hospital room after visiting hours​ and stabbed her in the neck, chest, and arms, according to a February 28, 2018, article in theTallahassee Democrat. The son grabbed a surgical mask and gloves from a supply closet before entering the room.
