If OIG’s Hotline Calls, Don’t Answer

​Scammers are using the Department of Health and Human Services' (HHS) Office of Inspector General's (OIG) hotline telephone number to target people across the country, according to a March 3, 2017, alert. The scammers represent themselves as OIG hotline employees and can alter caller ID to make it appear that the call is coming from OIG. The caller will use various tactics to obtain or verify personal information, which can then be used for fraudulent activity or to steal from an individual's bank account.
