Suicide is now the 10th-leading cause of death in the United States, and healthcare providers in all settings can do more to detect and treat it, said the Joint Commission in its latest Sentinel Event Alert. According to the Joint Commission suicide victims typically receive health care services in the year prior to their death, though usually for reasons unrelated to mental health.
