The Death was Fictional, but the Risks of Sepsis Are Real

A young mother on a BBC radio soap opera died from sepsis after accidently cutting her arm on a rusty nail during a recent episode. The program was praised by the director of the United Kingdom's sepsis trust and received an outpouring of support on social media from people thanking the show for raising awareness, as well as those sharing stories of loved ones who battled sepsis. Sepsis kills 44,000 people in the United Kingdom each year, the article said, and awareness could save about 14,000 of those lives.
