Consumers are using online ratings of physicians to choose a physician, although other factors, such as whether the physician accepts a patient’s health insurance, weigh more heavily in their decisions, according to research published in the February 19, 2014, issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association. Of the 2,137 respondents to a web-based survey, 59% said that physician rating sites were “somewhat” or “very important” for choosing a physician. By comparison, a physician’s acceptance of the patient’s health insurance was rated as “very important” by 89% of respondents.
