Authors of an article in the January 5, 2016, Journal of the American Medical Association cite the "productivity paradox," in which new technology does not improve workflow efficiency until the nature of the work itself is rethought. Researchers point to the retiring of pagers as an example of this paradox: "It is time to reimagine electronic clinical communication," they write.
