An assisted-living facility in Florida has closed after two recent incidents reported in the media involving resident abuse or neglect. In one incident, video surveillance at the facility captured one resident beating another resident over an alleged stolen cupcake. According to a December 28, 2017, article on CNN.com, the video, recorded in October, involved a 52-year-old resident punching an 86-year-old resident with dementia more than 50 times, as the victim curled up on the floor. The fight occurred in a common area, CNN said; other residents can be seen eating and watching TV mere feet away, with no staff present and no one monitoring the security cameras.
