Recent estimates indicate that 1 in 36 American children aged 8 years are autistic, up from 1 in 44 estimated in 2018. In addition, there are currently more than 5.4 million autistic adults, though this number is expected to increase as individuals who were diagnosed as children in the 1990s and 2000s continue to age.
