Two basic techniques exist for donning medical gloves without assistance: the closed method and the open method. In the surgical environment, the closed gloving technique is almost universally followed during initial donning of sterile gloves, and the open gloving technique is used for changing contaminated gloves. Either method is acceptable for donning exam gloves when sterility is not a concern.
