As the prevalence of obesity continues to rise, healthcare facilities—even those that do not offer bariatric surgery for weight loss—should be prepared to safely accommodate these patients, particularly those individuals classified as obese or severely obese. Organizations should evaluate the physical design and layout of their facilities, from parking lots and waiting areas to patient rooms and clinical areas, to determine whether they are conducive to receiving and treating obese patients.
