PCA Pump Dose-Error Reduction System (DERS) Checklist
May 17, 2007 | Healthcare Risk, Quality, & Safety Guidance
A dose-error reduction system (DERS) checks programmed doses against preset limits stored in the pump specific to a drug and clinical location, application, or protocol profile. These systems should maximize patient safety for healthcare facilities that have the time and resources to devote to their implementation. They alert clinicians to programmed doses that exceed preset limits and either will require confirmation before delivery or will not allow delivery at all.
