In recent years as concern has grown surrounding effective reprocessing of complex surgical and endoscopic devices, the number of single-use endoscope models on the market has increased. Although the specific benefits vary by endoscope type, all are designed to reduce the risk of cross-contamination and lighten the reprocessing burden. In addition, many models have a low capital acquisition cost, making them an economical option for low-volume facilities. They are also easy to store and ready to use when needed, so they are convenient for unscheduled procedures, such as in the ICU.
