What’s Buzzing on Biomedtalk: Safety Checks on Rented Equipment

Two recent Biomedtalk discussions (here and here) have addressed the challenges of performing incoming electrical safety checks on rented equipment when it arrives—sometimes from other facilities or satellite locations. As one Biomedtalker commented, such equipment "seems to always come at the worst time," disrupting the department's work schedules.
To reduce the number of checks, one user suggested the implementation of a written "preferred vendor" policy, in which the biomed staff was familiar enough with a specific vendor's "maintenance records, policies and to some extent competence" to feel comfortable in omitting the safety checks.
