Volume ultrasound (often called 3-D ultrasound) is the reprocessing of multiple adjacent 2-D cross sections to render a slab-like image that contains a volume of ultrasound data. Volume-rendered views eliminate the need for a clinician to form a mental picture of anatomical structures based on numerous 2-D slices.
