The Bovie IDS-310 electrosurgical unit (ESU) offers good overall performance. It allows for the use of capacitive return electrodes and has an audible bipolar tissue impedance monitor. A minor disadvantage is that it automatically recalls the last settings used; we prefer that units turn on in a low power output setting to minimize patient risks in the event that the unit was last used at a high power setting.
