Preview

  • The Pyxis IV Prep system is intended to aid in the safe preparation of compounded products (e.g., compounded sterile products CSPs, nonsterile oral doses) in the pharmacy clean room by standardizing workflow, preventing incorrect preparation through hard stops (e.g., for incorrect ingredient/amount), and providing documentation (e.g., images) of compounding steps.
  • Major device components and software features:
    • Pyxis IV Prep workstation—Located in the laminar/vertical-airflow hood or biological safety cabinet and used primarily to prepare CSPs and operate the Pyxis IV Prep software. The workstation comprises:
      • Visual Documentation Hardware (VDH) imager—For imaging ingredient vials, preparation syringes, bags, ampules, bottles, and final containers
      • VDH bar-code scanner—For verification of ingredients
      • Scale—For gravimetric preparation
      • Computer—The Pyxis IV Prep software user interface
      • Label printer—For printing dose labels
    • Pyxis IV Prep software—Enables the following features:
      • Dashboard—Lists pending patient orders, which are selected by the user to initiate preparation. Medication can be classified as hazardous or nonhazardous, and orders can be prioritized as urgent or no priority.
      • Preparation parts list—Specifies required ingredients and diluents needed for the selected preparation
      • Preparation—Guides the preparer through preparation steps for each dose while recording steps taken and ingredient details (e.g., lot, National Drug Code NDC, manufacturer, expiration date), including images and ingredient weights
      • Dose review—Enables the pharmacist to ensure that the correct steps were taken to prepare the dose. Pharmacist remote dose review is also supported.
