The Pyxis IV Prep is an excellent choice for pharmacy IV compounding. The system comes standard with a gravimetric configuration, which can catch preparation errors through hard stops during the workflow, whereby the user is forced to stop and check potential preparation errors detected by the system before being allowed to proceed. In addition, the system is very easy to use: It provides helpful user prompts throughout the compounding process, automatically progresses through compounding tasks, and allows pharmacist review of dose preparation to be done remotely.
There is a moderate concern for use of this type of product in challenging environments. Like other pharmacy IV compounding workflow systems, the Pyxis IV Prep is designed to be used in a pharmacy clean room. There is typically no need for significant structural modifications; however, connectivity management may be required if the Pyxis IV Prep is connected to an ordering system (i.e., an electronic health record EHR).
