  • The Ascom Myco 2 is a multifunction communications device primarily used by clinical staff to communicate with each other and with patients.
    • When it is used with the Ascom Unite Context care coordination application, one can:
      • Enable secure texting
      • Initiate voice conversations
      • Provide secondary alarm notifications from the point of care
    • We tested the Myco 2 equipped with Ascom Unite Context and a Honeywell bar-code scanner engine.
  • Other functions and characteristics specific to the Myco 2 device are:
    • Hosting other clinical applications, such as BCMA
    • Personal alarms—push-button (panic) alarm, automated man-down/no-movement detection
  • Major device components and software features include:
    • Myco 2 handset: 112 × 63 mm (4.4 × 2.5 in), 194 g (6.8 oz). Includes a 74 × 50 mm (2.9 × 2 in) touchscreen for display and user input, a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera, a swappable battery, and integrated belt clip.
    • Handset includes the following software capabilities:
      • Ascom Unite Device Management software: A web-based solution that enables deployment via QR code, provides a single point of administration of all deployed handsets (i.e., install/uninstall apps, manage device settings, apply security patches and firmware updates).
      • A software license for a Honeywell decoding engine allows the camera to act as a bar-code reader. Ascom provides a software development kit (SDK) to allow a third-party app developer to create an interface with the Honeywell bar-code scanning engine.
    • Handset includes the following communication interfaces to hospital networks:
      • IP-DECT interface: This a global protocol, utilizing a frequency band within the 1.9 GHz spectrum (at 1920 MHz in North America) that is dedicated for the Unlicensed Personal Communications Services (UPCS) band. The Ascom Myco 2 supports telephony and secondary alarm notification over DECT channels, for facilities that wish to avoid this type of traffic on the hospital's local area network.
      • Wi-Fi interface, including Voice over Wi-Fi application support. Myco 2 can be deployed with Wi-Fi as either a backup to IP-DECT or as its primary connection. The following protocols are supported:
