- One goal of this device is to detect respiratory depression in postoperative adult patients who are on parenteral or neuraxial opioids in medical-surgical and general care units; patients in these care areas are frequently receiving opioids via patient-controlled analgesic (PCA) pumps.
- EtCO2 monitoring can also be used to ensure adequacy of ventilation during endoscopic and other procedural sedation procedures.
- The monitor may be used wherever patients are receiving parenteral or neuraxial opioids:
- Medical-surgical/orthopedic/trauma units
- Hospital and outpatient facilities during procedural sedation
- Hospital and outpatient postanesthesia care units
