  • Used to create short-term vascular access for the delivery of fluids, medications, and contrast media, as well as for blood sampling.

    • Needle—used to access the vessel
    • Catheter—a small flexible cannula that covers the needle (except for the tip) and, after insertion, remains in the arm

        • Gauges: 18-24 G

      • Pressure rating—power injection supported, at a maximum pressure of 300 psi
