Current Digital Radiography and Computed Radiography Options: From Basic to Advanced

Hospitals that are in the market to buy a new digital radiography system face a daunting number of choices. The type of detector chosen—digital radiography (DR) or computed radiography (CR)—will affect price, dose, and workflow. In addition, buyers must choose the type of table, wall stand, and x-ray tube support, as well as the x-ray generator power (e.g., 50 or 80 kW) and the level of positioning automation. A site with a high patient workload will likely choose a fully automated system capable of facilitating high workflow efficiency and providing a full range of studies, whereas a smaller practice might opt for a far more basic configuration.
