Malpractice exposures brought by changing healthcare employment patterns, increased privacy and data security risks, and public attention to safety across the continuum of care highlight trends that are driving the changing role of the healthcare risk manager, according to a December 2012 white paper from Advisen Insurance Intelligence. Many of these changes are related to the rapid adoption of health information technology and the integration of care highlighted in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010, although, as the white paper notes, new healthcare delivery models would be gaining momentum even in the absence of that law.
