Telehealth: American Hospital Association Offers Strategies

​The American Hospital Association has released a brief guide on emerging strategies in virtual care or telehealth and telemedicine. As the provision of healthcare remotely by means of telecommunications becomes more widespread, particularly to serve vulnerable communities where recruiting or retaining an adequate healthcare workforce may be difficult, the association has made four recommendations for action at the federal level. First, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) should broaden its reimbursement policies, removing geographic and originating-site restrictions and expanding the types of telehealth services and technology covered.
