CMS Must Better Align Its Risk Frameworks for Medicare and Medicaid, Says GAO
December 15, 2017 | Aging Services Risk, Quality, & Safety Guidance
The U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) recommended that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) better align its antifraud efforts with its fraud risk framework in a December 5, 2017, report. GAO said that although the current approach CMS takes is broad, it should also provide fraud-awareness training for its employees, conduct fraud risk assessments, and create an antifraud strategy for Medicare and Medicaid. Furthermore, GAO said, CMS has taken steps to identify fraud risks but has not conducted fraud risk assessments for Medicare or Medicaid.
