In Long-Term Care, Loss Rates Continue to Rise, Aon Finds

​In 2016, the general and professional liability loss rate limited to $1 million per occurrence is forecasted to be $2,150 per bed, according to Aon's November 2015 actuarial analysis for general and professional liability in long-term care. The loss rate is the amount of money required to settle, defend, or litigate claims, per occupied bed, in one year. Aon also forecasts a frequency of 0.99 claims per 100 occupied beds and a severity of $217,000 per claim. Loss rates are increasing by 5.0%, frequency is increasing by 3.0%, and severity is increasing by 2.0% annually.
