​While organizations increasingly recognize risk management as an "essential element of business strategy," executive decision makers and risk managers sometimes confront a "disconnect" regarding risk, says a new report from the risk consulting firm Advisen recommending strategies to bridge the gap and expand the risk manager's influence and responsibilities. Although the report is written for corporate risk managers from all industries, aging services risk managers may glean some tips from it. The report finds that, in their traditional role, risk managers perform an "essential function that is largely undervalued." Indeed, risk managers may be victims of their own success—performing their jobs so effectively that executive leadership can turn their attention elsewhere rather than dwelling on risks.
