​Recognizing that age is one of the strongest risks for cancer, the Institute of Medicine (IOM) has called for action in meeting the challenges of cancer care in the aging U.S. population. Approximately 14 million individuals in the United States have had cancer, and as the population ages, cancer incidence will increase 45% by 2030 to 2.3 million new diagnoses per year.
