AMDA: Flu Shots Should Be Mandatory for All Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Workers

All healthcare personnel at post-acute and long-term care facilities should receive the flu vaccination, according to a September 6, 2018, release from The Society for Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine (AMDA). The 2017-18 flu season was "especially brutal" for older adults, AMDA said. Nursing homes in particular leave older adults vulnerable to the flu because of close quarters, complex medical conditions of residents, and frequent contact with multiple providers. AMDA called for mandatory annual vaccines for all postacute and long-term care workers, unless there is a medical contraindication.
