Developing New Programs for Managing Alzheimer’s and Other Dementias

​With the prevalence and cost of treatment of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias expected to increase rapidly in the coming years, communities are succeeding in introducing new and alternative therapies to calm residents, according to an article in the August 2013 Long-Term Living*. One organization profiled emphasizes with staff that they should get to know residents, focusing on the residents’ personal history since these residents tend to “live a little in the past.”
