Star Rating Scale Used on Nursing Home Compare Headed to Other CMS Comparison Websites

​The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) intends to expand its five-star rating system beyond nursing homes to encompass several other types of healthcare providers, states an August 13, 2014, Lexology article. According to the article, CMS announced in a blog post that, in late 2014 and early 2015, it plans to add a star rating system to the Hospital Compare, Dialysis Facility Compare, and Home Health Compare websites. Implemented for the Nursing Home Compare website in 2008, the overall star rating for each nursing home is an aggregate of its scores for three separate categories: health inspections, quality measures, and staffing.
