The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, an independent federal agency, has released a manual on protecting residents from financial abuse. Although it is aimed at skilled nursing and assisted-living facilities, the manual states that some of the information may also be useful in other residential settings for older adults. The manual presents information about financial abuse and strategies to prevent and address it; it focuses on financial abuse by trusted individuals or strangers but not staff or volunteers.
