Joint Commission Now Offering Memory Care Certification
June 20, 2014 | Aging Services Risk, Quality, & Safety Guidance
Beginning in July 2014, the Joint Commission will offer memory care certification as part of its accreditation program for nursing care centers, according to a June 4, 2014, press release from the accrediting agency. The certification builds on new accreditation requirements related to memory care, which also become effective in July. The accreditation requirements address five areas: staff collaboration and care coordination, staff knowledge and competence, ability-appropriate activity programming, emphasis on nonpharmacologic interventions to manage behavior, and physical environments that are safe and minimize confusion and overstimulation.
