Documentation, Business Concerns Top Challenges in Skilled Nursing, Assisted Living

​A survey of more than 1,200 nursing home and assisted-living administrators and staff indicated that documentation is the most significant challenge facing those facilities, according to results published by the consulting group Harmony Healthcare International. Respondents included administrators, directors of nursing, charge nurses, rehabilitation therapists, Minimum Data Set coordinators, certified nursing aides, and others. Documentation was identified as the top concern by 21% of respondents, followed by a quartet of business-related concerns: denied claims (12%), census (12%), business operations (12%), and revenue/reimbursement (11%).
