Lancet Study Estimates Severity of Coronavirus Disease

What's the news. Analyzing COVID-19 cases in China and internationally, a March 30, 2020, article in Lancet Infectious Diseases reported that in China mean duration from onset of symptoms to death was 17.8 days and mean duration to hospital discharge was 24.7 days. The authors calculated a case fatality ratio in China of 1.38%, increasing in older age groups: 0.32% in those less than 60 years of age, 6.4% in those 60 years or older, and up to 13.4% in those 80 or older.
