Endocrine Society Releases Clinical Practice Guideline for Diagnosis and Treatment of Diabetes in Older Adults

What's the news. The Endocrine Society released a clinical practice guideline aimed at improving the diagnosis and treatment of diabetes in older adults, according to a March 23, 2019, news release. Recommendations include simplifying medication regimens, improving outpatient plans to minimize hypoglycemia, using annual lipid profiles to reduce "bad cholesterol," administering annual comprehensive eye exams to detect retinal disease, and establishing clear blood sugar and blood pressure targets to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, stroke, and kidney disease.
