OIG Asks CMS to Improve Its Guidance to State Survey Agencies on Verifying Nursing Home Deficiency Corrections

​The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' (HHS) Office of Inspector General (OIG) released a report on February 7, 2019, detailing its review of state survey agencies' efforts in verifying corrections of deficiencies found in nursing homes. According to the full report, seven of nine state agencies that were selected for review did not verify nursing homes' correction of 326 of the 700 sampled deficiencies; or they did not maintain sufficient evidence that correction of deficiencies had been verified.
