CMS Announces New Payment Model for Emergency Ambulance Services

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced the Emergency Triage, Treat and Transport (ET3) payment model with new treatment and transport options for beneficiaries, according to a February 14, 2019, news release. The current setup for emergency services may incentivize organizations to transport all beneficiaries to the hospital, even when an alternative treatment option may be more appropriate, especially with vulnerable populations such as older adults.
