LTC Facility Evacuated during Below-Freezing Temperatures after Gas Service Shutdown

​A Rhode Island nursing home and assisted-living facility evacuated its 87 residents after losing its heating capabilities during a local natural gas shutdown, according to a January 22, 2019, article published by the Daily News. Low pressurization in gas lines prompted the gas company to shut down service to 7,100 customers in the area, including the St. Clare-Newport facility. The company expected the outage to last for at least a few days, and temperatures reached only 26°F the day of the evacuation.
