The key to safe patient and resident handling may be employee health, according to a January 16, 2019, article from the American Society for Health Care Risk Management's (ASHRM) ASHRM Forum. The first step in conducting a risk assessment for patient-handling claims should be analyzing the facility's injury data (including employee-injury and lost-work-days records and Occupational Safety and Health Administration OSHA logs) for worker claims related to patient handling injuries. It is thus key to maintain the overall health and well-being of an organization's workforce, the authors said.
