GAO to CMS: Harmonize Requirements across Personal Care Services Programs

​The U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) has recommended that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) collect data on and analyze the impact of in-home personal care services (PCS) programs on the health and welfare of beneficiaries, and "take steps to harmonize requirements" across PCS programs to ensure safety, quality, and oversight. As it stands, states can offer such services through various programs, with each having its own federal requirements.
