PBS NewsHour: Preparing for the Future of Long-Term Care
January 3, 2014 | Aging Services Risk, Quality, & Safety Guidance
On November 4, 2013, a panel of six long-term care experts met to discuss how to prepare for the future of long-term care. Broadcast by PBS**NewsHour’s MacNeil/Lehrer Productions and supported by the SCAN Foundation, Global and Regional Models for Long-Term Care: Can They Work Nationally? also shows a variety of innovative models in the United States, such as villages and state programs, and internationally, such as programs in Finland and Taiwan. In the panelists’ discussion of these and other models, several themes emerged. Many models strive to support older adults in their homes and communities. In addition, no single model is likely to suit all purposes, for financial, cultural, and other reasons; thus, multiple models will likely be needed.
