​A patient admitted to a skilled nursing facility after hip surgery developed a urinary tract infection (UTI), which went undiagnosed for two days. The delayed diagnosis resulted in a bacterial bloodstream infection and septic shock; the patient nearly died. In a lawsuit the patient brought against the facility and related entities in Florida state court, the jury awarded the patient $114,000, according to an article in the March 2022 Medical Malpractice Verdicts, Settlements & Experts.
