A Continuing Care Risk Management (CCRM) member asked for help in determining how often policies and procedures should be reviewed.
As of the time the member asked the question, Joint Commission standards touched on governance. Specifically, elements of performance for LD.01.06.01 and LD.01.03.01 referenced the medical director’s participation in the development of policies and procedures and annual leadership review of the organization’s performance in regard to its mission, vision, and goals, respectively. CARF addresses policy and procedure review in a chart titled “Activities to Conduct Annually”; specifically, the CARF standards include I.B.1 (review of governance policies) and I.I.8.e (review of personnel policies).
